Terps Come Up Short vs. Central Michigan

CONWAY, SC — Maryland softball fell to Central Michigan on Friday morning, 5-4, at the Chanticleer Showdown. The Terps recorded five hits and kept the game close throughout.

The Terps got their offense going early. Jaeda McFarland was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the first, before stealing second and advancing to third on the throw. Megan Mikami followed with a sacrifice fly to left, allowing McFarland to score the game's first run.

Central Michigan jumped on top in the third, with the Chippewas' Shannon Stein blasting a two-run homer. Maryland quickly had an answer, with Mikami singling home Michaela Jones to knot the game at two.

The Chippewas struck back in the top of the fourth, with Abbey Tolmie and Shannon Stein collecting RBIs to take a 4-2 advantage.

The Terps got those two runs back in the bottom of the fourth, before an RBI single by Alyssa Hollo put Central Michigan on top for good.

Maryland put itself in positions to score
  • In the last of the fourth, Maryland loaded the bases with nobody out. Kamryn Davis came home on a throwing error, before a sac fly from Jones evened the game, 4-4.

Ellefson solid in relief
