NAPLES, FL - The Terrapins are back on the fairways for the first time in just over three months competing at the UCF Challenge. After a successful four-day training trip to Palm Beach, FL, just over two weeks ago, the group returns to 'The Sunshine State' ready to go.
The team looks to continue its success individually and tighten up its overall team performance. Over the three-day event (February 6-8) stroke play tournament, the Maryland women's golf team will play the par-72 - 6,349-yard Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Participants in the challenge include host UCF (University of Central Florida), Virginia, Wake Forest, Auburn, Miami, Kentucky, NC State, Iowa State, Old Dominion, Kent State, UNCW (University of North Carolina Wilmington), College of Charleston, and Houston. Big Ten Conference participants include Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, and Minnesota.
Maryland will start Maria Vittoria Corbi (Jr.), Patricie Mackova (So.), Angela Garvin (Jr.), Panassaya Somchit (Fr.), and Karla Elena Vázquez Setzer (So.).
The tournament will consist of three rounds of play in a shotgun format beginning at 8:45 a.m. You can follow the on-course action here.
Hovland's Outlook
"I'm excited to get the spring season underway at UCF. The team has worked really hard the past few weeks to be ready to compete against a really strong field of teams," said Head Coach Kelly Hovland. "Despite the challenges that weather can present early in the season, each player has made a deep commitment to focusing on what we can control, and as a result, we have gotten better every day. This team is ready to put together complete rounds, complete tournaments, and push over the first domino of the season en route to achieving our goals!"
