SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Sophomore
Angel Reese of the 13
th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (21-8) is one of five finalists for the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award. The finalists were announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and he WBCA Thursday.
The five finalists for the 2022 Katrina McClain Award are NaLyssa Smith (Baylor), Cameron Brink (Stanford),
Angel Reese (Maryland), Naz Hillmon (Michigan) and Aneesah Morrow (DePaul).
Last week, Reese earned All-Big Ten First Team honors and was named to the All-Defensive Team. Reese leads the Terrapins with 17.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, as well as in blocks (31) and is second on the team in steals (49). She leads the Big Ten in total rebounds (313) and is second in the country in offensive rebounds (5.5). Reese also leads the league in double-doubles with 17 this season.
A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 student-athletes in November, which was narrowed to 10 candidates in February and now just five finalists. This month, the finalists will be presented to Ms. McClain and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2022 Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award will be determined by a combination of fan votes and input from the Basketball Hall of Fame's selection committee. Previous winners of the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award include NaLyssa Smith, Baylor (2021), Ruthy Hebard, Oregon (2018, 2020) and Napheesa Collier, Connecticut (2019).
