CLEMSON, SC – The Maryland Women's Golf team is back on the road after a 19-day break to compete in the sixth annual Clemson Invitational on Lake Keowee for their fourth tournament of the spring season.
The Terrapins look to improve their most recent performance placing in a tie for 10th the last time out. Over the three-day tournament (Mar. 25-27), stroke play format Maryland will play the par-72 - 6,386-yard The Reserve at Lake Keowee, a Jack Nicklaus layout.
Participants in the invitational include host Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Furman, Kansas, Kentucky, Kent State, Louisiana State, Miami, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, and UNC-Wilmington. Big Ten Conference foes include Illinois, Michigan State, and Purdue.
Maryland will start Patricie Mackova (So.), Angela Garvin (Jr.), Karla Elena Vázquez Setzer (So.), Elena Verticchio (Sr.), and Maria Vittoria Corbi (Jr.).
Last season, the Terps finished 3rd in the event. Corbi is the only returning player from that lineup a year ago, who placed 39th.
The tournament will consist of three rounds of play (18 holes each day) in a shotgun format beginning at 9:00 a.m. You can follow the on-course action here.
Hovland's Outlook
"I am excited to get back to competition after a few weeks off," said head coach Kelly Hovland. "The team is healthy, rested and ready for the challenge at Clemson. It is a beautiful golf course with a strong field and provides a great opportunity."
