
No. 21 Terps Suffer First Loss, 7-4, To Michigan

GREENVILLE, NC – The No. 21 Maryland baseball team suffered a 7-4 defeat to conference foe Michigan, its first loss of the season. The Terps (8-1) were up 4-0 in the sixth inning, but the Wolverines did damage in the later innings to snatch a victory away from Maryland. The game does not count in the Big Ten standings.
Dean was strong on the mound for the third consecutive start, throwing 5.1 innings of two-run baseball to go along with four strikeouts. Will Glock relieved Dean as Michigan would get two more runs on a two-run home run by Riley Bertram. Joey Velasquez's three-run home run off of Sean Heine gave Michigan the lead for good.
The leadoff hitter Shliger opened the scoring with a three-run home run, scoring both Maxwell Costes and Jacob Orr. The New Jersey native also singled in the first inning and added a triple in the fifth inning, falling a double short of Maryland's first cycle since 2001.
Chris Alleyne accounted for the fourth Maryland RBI, scoring Shliger on a groundout after his triple.
