INDIANAPOLIS — No. 11 Maryland women's basketball (21-8, No. 4 seed) fell to No. 14 Indiana (21-7, No. 5 seed) on Friday afternoon, 62-51, in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals. Ashley Owusu led all scorers with 21 points.

Angel Reese recorded a double-double, scoring 14 points and notching 13 rebounds.

After trailing for much of the first half, the Terps opened the second half on a 10-5 scoring run. Maryland outscored the Hoosiers in the third quarter, 16-13.

Mackenzie Holmes led Indiana with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Grace Berger also added 16 points for the Hoosiers.

Brenda Frese's Take
"We're extremely disappointed in the loss. This is a feeling for us that we're not used to, but I think it shows you just how tremendous the league has been all season long. All the credit goes to Indiana. I thought they were the tougher team. They punched first. They never looked back. They played extremely hard, I thought, for all 40 minutes, especially on day two legs. Really, really impressed. Can't say enough about their game plan and how they really took things away from us.

"But for us, it's using this fire to collect ourselves and get back. Obviously, we put ourselves in a really good position for the NCAA Tournament and we need to use that motivation. I've had teams in the past that have used this motivation to take them far in the NCAA Tournament."

Breaking Down The Action

Indiana shot 50% from the field in the first quarter, after which it held an 18-13 lead.
At the half, Angel Reese had a team-high eight points and seven rebounds, but the Hoosiers held a commanding 34-25 lead.
Maryland came out hotter in the third quarter, pulling as close as two.
Owusu and Reese continued scoring early in the fourth quarter to keep the Terps close.

Double-Figure Update

Owusu (21 points) scored in double-figures for the first time since Jan. 27, as she has been returning from an injury. It was still her 19th game in double-figures this season.
Reese (14 points) has scored in double-figures in 25 of 29 games – eight of the last nine – this season and now has 33 career games in double-figures.
