Maryland Athletics’ SAAC Board And Maryland Made Program Executive Boards Announced For 2022-23

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The 2022-23 University of Maryland Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive Board has been announced. Rising senior soccer student-athlete Catherine DeRosa will serve as the SAAC President for the upcoming year.
"I'm so excited to be the SAAC President this year," said DeRosa. "Our voices as student-athletes are so important and SAAC empowers all of us to use our voices and allows us to be heard. This is a great opportunity and I am so proud to represent Women's Soccer in this role."
The SAAC is a leadership group comprised of student-athlete representatives across every sport within Maryland Athletics. Members of SAAC serve the entire-athlete body through their dedication to acting as liaisons between student-athletes, the athletic administration and the NCAA along with building and strengthening campus-wide relationships. SAAC's mission is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by cultivating skills and service initiatives, promoting student-athlete welfare, and enhancing the student-athlete voice.
Also, the Maryland Made student-athlete development program announced its Executive Boards for the upcoming academic year. Maryland Made empowers student-athletes to explore their potential and pursue their passions.
Through comprehensive programming, the Student-Athlete Development team aims to facilitate an inclusive environment for student-athletes to refine their leadership, explore their professional possibilities, and enact change in their communities.
Maryland Made's Pre-Health Terps is a student-athlete organization dedicated to preparing students to pursue careers in the health profession. Student-athletes work in collaboration with UMD's Health Professions Advising Office (HPAO), local graduate school programs and administrators, student-athlete alumni and current healthcare professionals to deliver programming uniquely tailored for the student organization. Women's lacrosse rising junior Libby May will serve as the President of Pre-Health Terps in 2022-23.
"Serving as the President of the Pre-Health Terps group has allowed me to establish a welcoming environment where student-athletes can come together and grow as aspiring medical professionals, said May. "I have been able to connect with various Maryland student-athletes and staff, while gaining the opportunity to strengthen my leadership and communication skills. I can't wait to continue my role as the President this upcoming year!"
Worldwide Terps is a student-athlete organization whose mission is to support the overall international student-athlete experience. Programming includes but is not limited to helping international student-athletes transition and adjust to the United States and adhere to federal and state policies as well as preparing international student-athletes to pursue careers in U.S. and non-U.S. contexts.
Also, Kirstin Nichols of the Track & Field program will hold the role of Director of Storytelling with Maryland Made for 2022-23. In her role, she will amplify the voices of UMD student-athletes and share the stories of SAAC, Pre-Health Terps, Worldwide Terps and other student-driven initiatives.
Additionally, all of these student-athletes will be participating in Maryland Made's Student Leadership Education Program starting June 8. The five-week program is in partnership with the Leadership & Community Service-Learning (LCSL) office on the University of Maryland campus. The program curriculum was designed based on training from the NCAA's Leadership Academy Workshop. Maryland Made's Sophia Baur-Waisbord and Myles Alexander in the LCSL office were selected to attend. Program topics will include: StrengthsQuest assessment, teamwork, collaboration, ownership, public speaking, goal setting, inclusive design and more.
