Three Terps Ink MLB Contracts after Draft

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Terps Ryan Ramsey, Troy Schreffler Jr., and Chris Alleyne have each officially signed professional contracts after being selected on Day Three of the MLB Draft.

Each of the three draftees were key contributors to Maryland's historic 2022 campaign, that saw the Terps set a new record for victories and claim the program's first conference title in 51 years.

Ramsey, the first Terrapin ever drafted by the Kansas City Royals, signs after being selected in the 13th round (385th overall). A first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2022, Ramsey held a 11-1 record with a 3.22 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 92.1 IP. He was chosen as a ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-American, with his 11 wins ranking second in the nation, and second in program history for a single season.

The Montvale, N.J., native etched his name in baseball history on April 29, becoming the second player in Maryland history to throw a perfect game in a 13-0 win over Northwestern. The feat was just the 20th nine-inning perfect game in NCAA Baseball history. Ramsey was a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2021.

Schreffler Jr., signs with Philadelphia Phillies after being chosen in the 15th round (452nd overall). The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native had a stellar 2022, slashing .340/.421/.557 with a team high 23 doubles. A third-team All-Big Ten selection, the outfielder hit 10 home runs, brought in 57 RBIs and swiped 14 bases. Schreffler currently ranks top-5 in four single season offensive categories. He was a member of the 2022 Big Ten All-Tournament Team.

Alleyne inks a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers after being drafted in the 19th round (585th overall). Returning in 2022 for his fifth-year, Alleyne put forward one of the most outstanding offensive seasons in Maryland history, setting a school record with 24 home runs and being named a consensus All-American. The 2022 Big Ten Player of the Year, Alleyne slashed .331/.422/.673 with 79 RBIs and 24 steals. His versatility on the diamond was on display throughout the season becoming the first Division I player to notch 20 home runs and 20 steals in a season since 2018.

The Philadelphia native has carved his name in the Terps record books, earning top-10 rankings across nine offensive categories in program history. Alleyne was a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, given to the nation's best player, and selected as part of the College Park All-Regional team.
