Terps Draw 0-0 With Saint Joseph’s

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland and Saint Joseph's battled to a scoreless draw on Senior Day for the Terps at Ludwig Field.

The Terps outshot the Hawks 12-3.

Maryland celebrated its 12 seniors and two managers for their contributions to the program prior to the game.

The 12 seniors honored were: Keyera Wynn, Kam Fisher, Sofi Vinas, Mia Issac, Brooke Weston, Amanda Schafer, Christa Waterman, Sydney Hopkins, Alina Stahl, Madeline Smith, Olivia Hicks and Emory Wegener. The two student-managers honored were Nicole Kwoczka and Kaylee Kozlowski

Alyssa Poarch, Malikae Dayes and Mikayla Dayes, who were all honored at previous Senior Days, received a shout-out as well for their contributions as sixth-year seniors.

Breaking Down The Action
  • Sixth-year senior Alyssa Poarch booted a hard-struck shot in the 18th minute, but it was just high and bounced off the crossbar.
  • In the 36th minute, defender Christa Waterman, a graduate student and Fairleigh Dickinson University transfer, made a massive save, clearing the ball off the goal line after a Saint Joseph's corner.
  • The two teams were scoreless heading into halftime with the Terps holding a 5-2 shooting edge and putting two shots on goal to Saint Joseph's zero.
  • The Terps kept the offensive pressure going in the second half and Juliana Lynch took four early corners in the half.
  • Graduate student Amanda Schafer put up a well-struck shot from distance in the 74th minute that sailed just wide.
  • Neither team was able to find the back of the net as time ran out.

Big Boost In Goal
  • Georgia transfer Emory Wegener made her first appearance and start as a Terp.
  • She recorded her first shutout at Maryland, the 24th of her career.
  • Wegener got a big boost from the stifling Terp defense which did not allow Saint Joseph's to put a shot on goal.

Up Next
  • The Terps kick off Big Ten play on Friday when they host the Michigan Wolverines at 7pm at Ludwig Field.
