Terps Claim Second Win Of The Day, Sweep East Carolina

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- The Terps (8-3) won their second match of the day in dominant fashion, defeating East Carolina 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-13).

Behind three or more kills each from Sam Csire, Rainelle Jones, Laila Ricks and Anastasia Russ, the Terps took the first set. Maryland finished the first frame with 18 total kills.

After falling behind 8-2 early in the second set, the Terps battled back. A late 7-1 run gave them a 20-16 advantage and they ultimately came out on top.

After letting the Pirates score the first two points of the third set, the Terps turned up the heat and ultimately took a commanding 14-4 lead. Maryland was boosted by a quartet of service aces from Ricks and claimed the final frame in dominant fashion.

The team's final total of 50 kills were the most for the program in a three set match dating back to September 1, 2017 against Liberty. The team's eight blocks were the lowest total of the season, but the Terps have continued to outblock their foes in every game this year.

East Carolina only gave up ten free points, with the Terrapins earning 65 points in the match, their most in three sets this season.

The Terps are now 8-0 in Friday games this season, sweeping all four Friday doubleheaders. They finished today with 96 kills and 25.5 blocks.
