THIS WEEK'S STORYLINES
First time foes and familiar foes
- Coach Adam Hughes will be facing Mercer and East Carolina for the first time in his career while this is the first meeting with Mercer in program history.
- Meanwhile, the Terps will also face Virginia, who they have faced 60 times in program history. That's the four-most meetings with an opponent for Maryland (Duke - 69, North Carolina - 65, NC State - 65). Maryland swept the Cavs last year.
Road Trippin'
- This marks the third consecutive weekend on the road for Maryland with recent trips to Long Island and San Diego.
- Maryland will have a 29-day break between its last game at home (August 27) and next game at home (September 25)
Notable numbers
- Rainelle Jones is three blocks away from sole possession of second place on the Terps' all-time list. She already sits second in terms of block assists with 531. She's 22 away from first place on that list. Jones is currently the active career leader in total blocks across the NCAA and sits fourth in blocks per set.
- Sydney Dowler is now at ninth all-time in program history with 1,610 assists. She's 57 assists away from passing Tedi Doucet for eighth all-time while Eden Kroeger holds the top spot with 5,259 in her career.
- Sam Csire enters the weekend with exactly 600 kills in her career. Laila Ricks is only three away from notching her 300th career kill while Laila Ivey is nine away from her 100th career kill.
- Anastasia Russ is 26 kills away from her 100th kill and 24 blocks away from her 100th career block.
- Lexy Finnerty is seven away from her 200th career dig while Milan Gomillion enters the weekend 71 away from 700.
Top tier defense
- Once again, the Terps boast an accomplished defense. Currently, Maryland leads the nation with 3.2 blocks per set and the .145 opponents hitting percentage ranks 21st in the nation.
- Individually, three Terps rank Top-15 in the Big Ten when it comes to blocks per set. Rainelle Jones ranks second (1.72), Anastasia Russ sits sixth (1.44), and Laila Ricks is 15th (1.09). Those three are all Top Five in total blocks with Jones leading the way with 55.
- Maryland has outblocked their foes in every game this season and has 65.5 more blocks than their opponents this year.
- When it comes to digs, Milan Gomillion is the Big Ten's best. She leads the premier volleyball conference with 134 total digs and her 3.94 digs per set rank her fifth.
Connections
- Sophomore setter Zoe Huang is the lone Terp who hails from Virginia. Huang calls Centreville, Virginia, home and she attended Flint Hill High School.
- East Carolina sophomore Sophia Kruczko is from the same hometown as Sydney Dowler and also attended Green Hope High School.
