COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland gymnastics head coach
Brett Nelligan has received a five-year contract extension taking his contract to June 30, 2027, as announced by
Damon Evans, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics at the University of Maryland.
"Brett has been a part of the Maryland gymnastics family for decades and we are thrilled that he will continue to lead our program for years to come," said Evans. "Competing in the highly-competitive Big Ten, Brett has taken our Terps to new heights. In recent years we have set records as a team and had numerous individual achievements and honors that we are all proud of. The future of Maryland gymnastics is very bright under Brett's leadership."

Under Nelligan, the Terps finished their 2022 campaign with a successful 18-9 record and a trip to the NCAA Regionals. The team's 18 wins marked their highest total since 2018. The GymTerps claimed a sixth place finish at the Big Ten tournament, their best finish since 2014.
Nelligan's 2022 squad also set a program record with 196.025 points, their highest team score ever posted at the NCAA Regionals. The team took third place in the second round of the Raleigh Regional at Reynolds Coliseum.
Over his 14 years leading the GymTerps Nelligan has consistently welcomed some of the top recruiting classes in program history and has guided Maryland to 11 NCAA Regional appearances including seven straight from 2009 to 2015.
Under Nelligan's leadership three Terrapins have received All-American honors. In 2013, Katy Dodds and Stephanie Giameo, were named NACGC/W All-Americans, representing the first All-America honors for the Terrapins since 2001. The 2013 season proved to be one of the most successful in Maryland history, as Nelligan guided the team to an impressive 18-3-1 and 11-1 conference record. The team finished second at the EAGL Championships
In 2022, Nelligan coached
Audrey Barber to WCGA Second Team All-American honors in the all-around. Over five years with Nelligan, Barber finished her career as the program's all-time leading scorer and tied the program record in the all-around scoring a career best 39.6250.
Overall, Nelligan is 206-164 in 13 seasons with the Terrapins. A native of College Park, he is joined by his wife Angela and their two daughters, Taya and Riley
A 2003 graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a degree in sport management, Nelligan competed in gymnastics and diving during his time with the Minutemen. Nelligan joined Maryland's coaching staff in July of 2003 and was named the fourth head coach in program history on May 1, 2009, following the retirement of his father, Bob Nelligan.
