Morgantown, WV -- Maryland started off 2023 strong finishing first in the West Virginia Tri-Meet and defeating West Virginia and Kent State with a score of 195.425. This marks the fifth consecutive season that they have started the season with a 2-0 record.

The Terps started off strong on Bars as
Emma Silberman,
Sierra Kondo and
Elizabeth DeBarberie each earned a score of 9.800. Maryland remained strong on beam with Silberman and freshman Maddie Komoroski leading the way with scores of 9.750 and 9.725 respectively. The Gym Terps really caught fire in the third rotation as four gymnasts earned scores of 9.800 or above. This momentum carried into vault as a terrific final rotation secured the victory for the Terps. Silberman finished second in all-around finishing above Kent State's Rachel Decavitch.

Alexsis Rubio earned the high score of the night with an impressive 9.875 on vault. Overall, the Terps earned three top-five scores on bars and vault, propelling them to the season-opening victories.

The wins mark Maryland's first over West Virginia since 2015 and first against Kent since 2009.
