LYNCHBURG, VA- The University of Maryland women's tennis team finished their fourth day of competition at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships.
Mary Brumfield and
Selma Cadar have advanced to the doubles finals for the second year in a row.
Kallista Liu and
Selma Cadar advanced to the semifinals in singles.
Brumfield and Cadar have clinched a spot in the ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego.
"Great day for us as a program advancing a doubles team to the final and having two players in the semis tomorrow," said Head Coach
Katie Dougherty. "Ruth and I are incredibly proud of Selma, Mary, and Kallista and how they've handled themselves throughout the weekend."
Minorka Miranda and
Maria Budin's strong tournament run ended in the quarterfinals where they withdrew because of injury.
"This tournament is a grind with the volume of matches and how locked in they've been in every match has been great… Really unfortunate for Mino and Maria having to pull out, they've been playing very good tennis," said Coach Dougherty
The final day of the tournament will feature the finals for doubles where Brumfield/ Cadar will face Subhash and Shaikh (UVA).
Kallista Liu will face Shaikh (UVA) and
Selma Cadar will face Chekhlystova (PSU) in the semi-finals for singles.
"We have a lot more work to do tomorrow with very tough opponents and will take each match point by point and put ourselves in the best position possible," said Coach Dougherty. "Our discipline and execution will need to be excellent tomorrow and I'm confident they'll be up for the task."
