Terps Fall To Indiana In Straight Sets

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Coming off of a historic victory over No. 16 Minnesota the night before, the Terps could not replicate that success, falling 3-0 (18-25, 19-25, 20-25) to Indiana on Saturday evening in the XFINITY Center Pavilion.
All three sets were tightly contested but the Terps could not find the points at the end when they needed them.
Redshirt senior middle blocker Anastasia Russ led the way with 11 kills while Laila Ivey and Erin Morrissey recorded eight kills apiece. Senior libero Lilly Gunter notched an outstanding 20 digs and junior setter Erin Engel recorded two service aces.
The Terps stand at 13-5 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten while Indiana is 13-6 with a 3-3 Big Ten mark.

- Sam Csire and Eva Rohrbach combined on a block early to tie it at 4-4.
- Erin Engel's first ace of the night put the Terps up 7-6.
- Maryland stretched its lead to 16-10 as Sydney Dowler and Anastasia Russ combined on a block.
- Indiana finished the set on a 15-2 run.
Set 2: Indiana 25 - Maryland 19
- Dowler kicked off the second set with a setter dump for a point.
- A powerful Erin Morrissey kill evened it at 3-3.
- A 3-0 Maryland run, highlighted by two kills from Russ, trimmed the Indiana lead from 8-4 to 8-7.
- Morrissey came up with another big kill and later an ace to make it a one-point frame two separate times.
- The Terps continued to battle but Indiana took the second set.
Set 3: Indiana 25 - Maryland 20
- Laila Ivey notched a kill to put the Terps up 2-1 early.
- A kill from Samantha Schnitta made it a 7-5 Maryland lead.
- The Terps went up 12-8 after a 30-second rally was finished off by a kill from Ivey.
- Indiana went on a run to take a three-point lead, but a big kill from Russ brought it back to a 16-15 Maryland deficit.
- The Terps were not able to regain the lead the rest of the way.

- 11: Anastasia Russ led the Terps with 11 kills for her third double-digit kill match of 2023.
- 20: Lilly Gunter matched her season high with 20 digs (6.67 per set).
