PERFECTO: Schlotterbeck Spins Perfect Game As No. 21 Terps Improve To 9-1

WACO, TXSenior Trinity Schlotterbeck pitched the first perfect game in Maryland softball history since 2013 as she retired all 15 Texas A&M Commerce batters as No. 21 Maryland beat the Lions, 10-0 in the first game of the Baylor Invitational.

Maryland improved to 9-1 on the season, equaling its best start to a year since the 2012 season, when it was also 9-1.

Schlotterbeck (5-0 this season) pitched the first Terps' perfect game since Maddie Martin threw a five-inning perfecto against Howard on March 27, 2013. It was the seventh perfect game in school history and 38th overall no-hitter. The last no-hitter came on March 12, 2016 as Brenna Nation blanked Saint Louis. Schlotterbeck stuck out eight, one shy of her career-high.

The Terps' offense continued its onslaught this season as Amelia Lech hit her team-high fourth home run with a two-run blast. Jaeda McFarland went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs along with two stolen bases.

Sammi Woods drove in a run with an RBI double and scored a run.

Overall, the Terps stole seven bases with Megan Mikami (1-for-3 with three runs scored) and Mackense Greico both swiping two in addition to McFarland. Michaela Jones (1-for-1) also had a steal. Schlotterbck had the Terps' other hit.
Breaking Down The Action
  • Maryland jumped out early as McFarland doubled in Mikami three batters into the game. Lech then clubbed her fourth homer of the season to score McFarland to make it 3-0 after the first inning.
  • The Terps added to the lead in the third as McFarland stole home after she singled to lead off the third inning for a 4-0 lead. Then Mackense Greico scored on an error for a 5-0 edge after three.
  • The margin expanded to 6-0 as Sammi Lewis' sacrifice fly score Megan Mikami
  • Woods drove in the seventh run a double down the leftfield line to score Greico, making it 7-0.
  • The lead expanded to 9-0 as Woods and Mikami scored on an error in the top of the fifth. McFarland doubled in Mikami for the 10-0 final.
