COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2022-23 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week's Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week is senior Brinae Alexander of women's basketball.
Senior Brinae Alexander played a huge roll in leading the fifth-ranked Terrapins (24-5) to two big-time wins to close regular season play. In wins over No. 6 Iowa and at No. 16 Ohio State, Alexander came off the bench to lead the Terrapins in scoring with 20.0 points. She went 10-18 (55.6%) from outside the arc and 13-24 (54.2%) from the floor. Against Iowa Tueday, she went 4-5 from outside the arc in the second quarter alone as the Terrapins built a 46-28 lead at half. Early in the third quarter, she made back-to-back threes to make it a 24-point Terrapin lead. Alexander finished the game 6-9 from outside the arc for a season-high 24 points. At No. 16 Ohio State Friday, she picked up where she left off, shooting 4-9 from outside the arc for 16 points with 4 boards and 2 assists. She hit two threes in the second quarter as the Terps led by 5 at half. She made a key three in the third quarter to answer one made by OSU that gave the Buckeyes the lead. The next play, she made 2 free throws to keep it a one-possession game. Maryland went on to win 76-74.
The Terrapins have seven wins over ranked teams and four over top 10 teams. Maryland has won six straight games heading into the Big Ten Tournament this weekend.
