
No. 18 Terps Claim First Home Win, Defeat Delaware 8-3

Logan Ott stole the show on the mound for the Terps, striking out a career-high seven batters in 4.2 innings of work, taking over for freshman Kyle McCoy, who made his starting debut for the Terps on the mound, striking out two in a scoreless first inning.
Maryland's home run barrage to begin the 2023 season continued in the bottom of the first inning as Ian Petrutz, who hit two homers over the weekend against Ole Miss, hit his fifth of the season as the Terps have hit a home run in every game so far this season.
Petrutz was one of two Maryland players with a homer as Elijah Lambros hit his third homer of the season, a two-run blast in the bottom of the fourth. It was his second-consecutive game with a home run for the Terps as he went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Catcher Luke Shliger extended his current hitting streak to six games in the win, going 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the bottom of the second. Maryland scored in three of the first four innings of play, putting up two-run spots in the first, second and fourth innings.

Five Maryland hitters recorded a hit in the win, with three recording multi-RBI games. Nick Lorusso, coming off a two-homer game against the Rebels on Sunday, added three RBI to his season total with an RBI groundout to begin the scoring in the first and a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth.
Delaware was led offensively by Jake Dunion and Owen Petrich, who each recorded two hits and an RBI, Petrich doubling twice for the Blue Hens.
Breaking Down The Action
- Lorusso got the scoring started for the Terps in the bottom of the first with an RBI groundout. Petrutz followed with his third home run in four games, a solo shot as Maryland took a multi-run lead early, 2-0.
- Shliger continued the run-scoring barrage in the bottom of the second inning with a two-run double into left-center, scoring Lambros and Keister, 4-0.
- Lambros was the second Maryland hitter to go deep, hitting a two-run shot in the fourth, his second in as many games and third of the season, 6-0.
- Delaware got on the board in the top of the sixth inning as Dunion recorded an RBI single down the left field line and Petrich doubled down the third-base line, scoring Dunion, 6-2.
- Lorusso added on to his RBI total for the day with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth for Maryland, 8-2.
- Freeman singled home a run in the top of the seventh as Delaware got a run back on the Terps, 8-3.
