No. 37 Maryland Set to Compete in Stacked Clemson Invitational

SUNSET, S.C. - This weekend, the Maryland women's golf team will travel to Sunset, S.C., to play in Clemson Invitational at The Reserve at Lake Keowee. This is the team's eighth event of the 2022-23 campaign.
Over the three-day tournament (March 24-26), Maryland will play the par-72 Jack Nicklaus-designed layout. The tournament will consist of 54 holes of play (18 holes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) beginning at 9:00 a.m. for rounds one and two and 9:30 a.m. for the final round. Players will tee off holes one and ten for the first two rounds via tee times and in a shotgun format for the final round. The 84-person field will play from 6,383 yards.
No. 36th-ranked junior Patricie Mackova, freshman Nicha Kanpai, ranked 57th nationally, senior Angela Garvin, senior Maria Vittoria Corbi, and sophomore Panassaya Somchit will tee it up this weekend for the Terrapins.
Maryland enters this week as the 37th-ranked team in the nation, with Mackova and Kanpai, respectively, sitting in 3rd and 6th in the Big Ten Conference.
Participants in the invitational include host No. 28 Clemson, Columbia, Florida Atlantic, No. 61 Furman, No. 38 Kent State, No. 26 Kentucky, No. 3 LSU, No. 60 Oklahoma, No. 22 Oklahoma State, No. 17 Ole Miss, No. 46 Tennessee, No.16 Vanderbilt, No. 69 Virginia Tech, and No. 70 UNCW. Big Ten foe include No. 55 Illinois. Rankings are based on standings via Golfstat as of March 22, 2023.
"This is a great opportunity to compete in a great field against some of the best in the country, said head coach Kelly Hovland. "We have spent the past 10 days resting and recovering from the grind of the season and preparing for Clemson. I am eager to see what we can do this week."
Last season, the Terps finished 11th out of 17 teams overall. Mackova placed in a tie for 6th, Garvin in a tie for 30th, and Corbi in a tie for 71st.
