Rutgers Rallies Late For 4-3 Comeback Win Over Terps

PISCATAWAY, NJ –After being no-hit for six innings, Rutgers scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Maryland 4-3 in Game 1 of a doubleheader on a wet and windy Wednesday afternoon. Morgan Smith singled to left field to score two runs and give the Scarlet Knights the win. 

Maryland is now 26-9 overall and 3-4 in the Big Ten. Rutgers is 28-12. 


The Terps scored their runs on sacrifice flies from Amelia Lech and Kiley Goff. Megan Mikami drove in the other run with an RBI single. Goff and Jaeda McFarland had the Terps' other hits. 

Courtney Wyche pitched six innings, allowing just one hit and struck out six. 



Breaking Down The Action
  • Lech's sacrifice fly brought home Kiley Goff in the first inning as the Terps loaded the bases in taking a 1-0 lead.  
  • Mikami singled home Schlotterbeck in the fifth inning to put the Terps up 2-0. Goff's sacrifice fly scored Sammi Woods for the 3-0 lead.
  • Wyche and the Terps received some clutch defensive plays with McFarland catching a ball against the wall in the sixth inning. 
  • Rutgers picked up its first hit and first run in the seventh inning to break up the no-hitter and the shutout. Georgia Ingle walked with the bases loaded. They scored another run on a bases loaded walk before Smith singled to the left side to score two for a 4-3 final.
