Maryland Cinches Series Win With 4-3 Victory Over Rutgers

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland (19-11, 4-1 B1G) secured a series win against Rutgers (15-15, 1-4 B1G) with a 4-3 win over the Scarlet Knights on Saturday afternoon at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium in College Park. It's the Terps' second-straight conference series win to begin Big Ten play this season.

Maryland was held hitless into the third inning, but the offense woke up in the middle innings, taking the lead back in the bottom of the fifth after Rutgers built a 2-0 lead. Zach Martin tied things up at 2-2 for the Terps with a two-run homer to right field and like Friday night, Nick Lorusso hit his second go-ahead homer in as many days, a solo homer to make it 3-2.

That homer was his 13th of the season and his 47th RBI, staying the team leader in both categories and the conference leader in RBI. It also helped extend his current hitting streak to 29 games.

Elijah Lambros provided some much-needed insurance in the bottom of the eighth inning, driving home Bobby Zmarzlak with an RBI sacrifice fly. Lambros finished with a two-hit game for the Terps, his fifth multi-hit game of the season.

Terps starter Nick Dean had one of his better starts of the season, giving up two earned runs in six innings of work, his third start of five or more innings and two or or less earned runs allowed. He struck out five Rutgers batters, the fifth time he's reached that mark this season.
