COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Five members of the Maryland softball team earned All-Big Ten recognition, the conference announced Wednesday.
Mackense Greico,
Jaeda McFarland and
Courtney Wyche have all been selected for the Second Team All-Big Ten, while
Trinity Schlotterbeck and McFarland have earned All-Defensive Team honors.
Mackense Greico has been a crucial part in Maryland's success on the field. Offensively, she is second on the the team in batting average (.353) and third on the team in home runs with five on the season, two of them coming in the final series of the regular season against Illinois. Defensively, she has recorded 239 putouts with four assists, finishing the regular season with a fielding percentage of .996.
Jaeda McFarland finds earns herself postseason honors for the third consecutive year. McFarland is top-three on the team in six different offensive categories, slugging percentage, runs, hits, RBIs, doubles and batting average and is also second on the team in stolen bases. Appearing and starting in all 52 games in center field for the Terps, McFarland finished the regular season with a perfect fielding percentage.
Courtney Wyche has been a constant threat on the mound all season for the Terps. Wyche wracked up 17 wins in 30 appearances over the course of the regular season. Wyche recorded a career-high 176 strikeouts in the circle this season, bringing her total to 409 on her career.
All-Defensive team honor
Trinity Schlotterbeck has been a versatile force for the Terps all season long. Schlotterbeck has a team-low ERA of 1.89 in 118 innings pitched for Maryland. When not in the circle, Schlotterbeck has made her presence felt in right field totaling 27 putouts and 28 assists. The senior has also been a constant offensive threat as she is second on the team in home runs (6) and second on the team in RBIs (40).
Taylor Liguori was named Maryland's sportsmanship honoree.
Maryland will open up postseason play today in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in Champaign, IL. The Terps enter the tournament as a No. 8 seed and will take on the No. 9 Iowa Hawkeyes at 5:30 EST on BTN.
