No. 19 Terps Drop 9-2 Decision to Northeastern

COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 19 Maryland fell to Northeastern, 9-2, on Tuesday night at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium in College Park. The Terps (33-17) could do little to counteract this hard-hitting Huskies squad, which has been ranked for much of the season.

Northeastern (37-9) jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first three innings off of a pair of two-run home runs before adding another run in the fifth. Maryland had no answer on offense early against Jake Gigliotti and a tough Huskies defense, until Ian Petrutz delivered an RBI single in the fourth.

Elijah Lambros scored Maryland's second run in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single by Luke Shliger. Matt Shaw and Matt Woods had the Terps' other hits in the game, along with walks by Shliger, Woods, Eddie Hacopian, and Jacob Orr

Despite giving up a hit and a home run to begin the game, starting pitcher Kenny Lippman spun five strikeouts against the next six Huskies batters he faced. Maryland's other pitchers tallied an additional five strikeouts and held Northeastern to only one run in the final four innings.

Tyler MacGregor recorded three home runs in this game, his third multi-HR game of the season for Northeastern.
