COLLEGE PARK, MD – Entering the 2023 season, Maryland women's soccer head coach
Meghan Ryan Nemzer has announced the promotion of
Kenie Wright to assistant coach, effective July 1.
"I am so excited to step into my new role as assistant coach," said Wright. "I want to thank Meg for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to learn from the best. I've learned so much the last year and a half from the entire staff and am happy to be a part of this amazing program! Go Terps!"
The Mount Laurel, N.J. native is entering her second year on staff at Maryland in the 2023 season. In her first season at Maryland she served as the program's first-ever Director of Player Development, leading the Terps to their most successful season since 2019. Under Wright's assistance Maryland achieved several milestones including its highest finish in the Big Ten in four years, the most Big Ten wins since 2019 and the program's first-ever victory over Michigan.
Wright came to Maryland after a successful NWSL career competing for NJ/NY Gotham FC (Formally Sky Blue FC). Wright was drafted 29th overall in the 2019 NWSL draft and spent three seasons with the club. During her time as a professional athlete, Wright also served as a coach for Ukrainian Nationals girls club program and Lenape High School varsity girls soccer.
"We could not be be more thrilled to announce this promotion of
Kenie Wright to our coaching lineup," said coach Nemzer. "Kenie has been a tremendous member of our staff and asset to our program since joining us last year. Her impact has been immeasurable and I have no doubt that she will continue to elevate this program on the field as a coach on our staff. Everyday we strive to create the best atmosphere for our student-athletes on and off the field. There is no better person that exemplifies this objective than Kenie. As a head coach in the club level, she has guided her team to an ECNL Playoff birth, as a player she has won at every level that she has competed in. But most importantly, she is a great role model to women and I could not be happier to have her part of our Terp family."
