Q&A with Allie Kubek

UMTerps.com sat down with Maryland Women's Basketball's Allie Kubek to get to know her on and off the court. Check out her answers below as she gears up for the season.

Tell us about your most memorable or favorite moment that you have had with Maryland Women's Basketball?
My most memorable moments would be the buzzer beater Diamond or Shy had against Notre Dame and Purdue, or making it to the Elite 8.

What is your favorite extracurricular activity to do on or around campus?
I like to hangout with my teammates at the pool at my apartment building and get some sun in the summer obviously.

What do you value most about being part of this basketball program? How has it positively impacted your college experience?
I think just the connections and relationships I have built. I think I have made long-term friendships here. Not only that, but making connections that will help me in the future.

Outside of basketball and academics, why would you tell incoming freshmen to come here?
The family atmosphere. Coach B and the coaching staff do a great job of catering to your specific needs. The resources we have here are incredible.

What is your favorite thing about Coach Frese?
She is so personable. After I tore my ACL, she was always there for me. Whatever I needed, she did it for me and I really appreciated that.

If you had to guess, what would you say you're known for on the team?
I am known for my shooting ability and being vocal. I feel like I am one of the loudest people. We have a lot of loud people on the court.

Are there any professional players that you look up to or try to emulate in your playing style?
I have always looked up to Elena Delle Donne because she is from Delaware, which is around where I grew up. She's just a big guard so I look at her game a lot.

Outside of basketball, what are your hobbies and interests?
I have a PlayStation, so I like to play the game a lot. I also have a dog. We try to walk him around and teach him tricks, but he's a handful.

Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions that you follow? Any unusual ones?
I usually do a pre-game naps, but I don't have any superstitions.

Do you have any funny or interesting nicknames that your previous teammates or friends have given you? How did they come about?
I have a lot of nicknames. All my coaches and trainers from back home call me "Allie Cat" or "Gator" or "Big Cat", my mom calls me Buggy and a lot of people call me Mike because my middle name is Michael.

If you had to choose one basketball player, past or present, to be your teammate in a 2-on-2 tournament, who would it be and why?
Aliyah Boston. She is so dominant on the boards and just a really good player.

If you were to organize a team bonding activity or event, what would it be and why?
I don't want to do anything like bowling or TopGolf because we can do that now. If this is at someone else's expense I would say tubing or parasailing, something along those lines would be so fun.
