COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland plays its second game of the season as it takes on the Florida Gators at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The game will be televised on SEC Network+.

Maryland opened its season against American on the road at Reeves Field, with both teams playing to a 0-0 draw. Transfer goalkeeper Liz Beardsley made her debut for the Terps and stopped three shots. The Terrapins got three shots on goal during their match on Thursday, but were not able to get on the scoresheet.
 
Last Time vs. Florida
  • It's been a minute since both these teams met with the last match up coming in 1998. In two matchups with the Gators, Maryland has a record of 0-1-1. The first meeting came in 1997 with the two teams coming to a 3-3 draw. In the second meeting, the Terps took a 7-2 loss to the Gators. Keri Sarver, who was an assistant coach for the New Zealand National Team during this year's Women's World Cup, had a goal and an assist across both matches for the Terps.

Keri Sarver was a two-time All-ACC selection and named an All-American in 1998. Sarver is the Maryland career leader in Goals (61), Assists (33), and Points (155).
A Game of Debuts
  • 14 players made their debut for Maryland in its season opener against American.
  • Six transfers made their debuts for the Terrapins, with all six being in the starting 11. Liz Beardsley started in goal for the Terrapins, while the duo of Katie Coyle and Eden White started at center back. Caroline Koutsos finished off the back line for the Terps. Lauren Wrigley made her starting 11 debut for the Terrapins in midfield and Kat Parris started at forward in her first game for Maryland.
  • Seven of the freshman from Maryland's No. 11-ranked class in the nation got their first action for the Terrapins. Kennedy Bell started at right back, while Madison Krakower started at the other forward position. Isabel DiPrima, Hannah Schapiro, Peyton Bernard, and Lisa McIntyre came on as subs in the first half. Courtney McClure came on as a sub in defense in the second half.
  • Kelsey Smith, who missed the 2022 season with an injury, made her Terrapin debut. Smith was the 2021-22 Maryland Girls Soccer Gatorade Player of the Year.
Katie Coyle takes free kick against American
Katie Coyle, a transfer from Notre Dame, made her debut for the Terps against American. The defender went the full 90 minutes, and helped lead to a clean sheet in their season-opening match
Syd Makes Her Return
  • Sydney Urban, who is a senior defender for the Terrapins, started her career with Florida. 
  • Urban competed with the Gators from 2020-21 and played in 37 matches and started 27. Urban played a total of 2278 minutes while at Florida. Urban also picked up an assist in her two years at Florida
  • Urban transferred to Maryland ahead of the 2022 season to play in the back line for the Terrapins. In her first season in College Park, Urban started in 16 of the 17 matches she played. She helped the Terps to four clean sheets in 2022, including in Maryland's first win over Michigan in program history (1-0, 9/16/22).
  • Urban played 34 minutes for the Terrapins in their 2023 season debut against American which ended in the 0-0 draw.

Sydney Urban is in her second year as a defender for the Terrapins. Urban started her career with the Florida Gator, playing there from 2020-2021. Urban will be making her return to Gainesville as the two teams face off on Sunday
Season Opener Success
  • With the Terrapins 0-0 draw in their season opener against American, they are now unbeaten in their last seven season openers (4-0-3).
  • The last time Maryland dropped its season opener came in 2016 when the Terps came up short against TCU, 2-1.
  • Since 1995, Maryland is 20-4-5 in season-opening matches.
Dayes Named B1G Freshman of the Week
The Terrapins have not lost a season opener in their last seven games. The streak started in 2017, When the Terrapins defeated the Drexel Dragons 2-1. Mikayla Dayes opened the scoring to help lead the Terps to the win.
Championship Experience Coming to College Park
  • Defender Eden White enters her first season at Maryland after transferring from Santa Clara. White was a member of Santa Clara's National Championship team in 2020.
  • White went from playing limited minutes as a freshman and sophomore to becoming a key contributor of the 2020 squad. White played in every minute on the Broncos' back line during their NCAA Tournament run. White was also a key contributor in the NCAA Tournament run to the 2021 Final Four.
Eden White Helps Setup Defense
Eden White made her debut in Maryland's 0-0 draw with American. White comes to Maryland from Santa Clara, where she started in the Broncos NCAA Championship win in 2020. White was also a key contributor to the 2021 team which reached the Final Four
