Box Score Berkeley, CA -- The No. 3 Terps used a pair of late fourth-quarter goals from
Hope Rose within 1:04 seconds to break a 1-1 tie and propel themselves to a 4-1 win over California.
Sammy Popper also tallied a score in the final few minutes of play.
The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 for all of the third quarter and most of the fourth until Rose broke through for two scores and Popper added another, bringing Maryland to 2-0 on the season.
Margot Lawn scored the first goal for the Terps and came up with the assist on Rose's go-ahead goal. Freshman Maci Bradford continued her hot start to her collegiate career with an assist.
Breaking Down The Action
- Both defenses made statements early as the first shot came from Cal halfway through the first quarter. Maryland had a few early odd-man rushes but couldn't find the back of the cage.
- The Golden Bears struck first with a goal within the final minute of the first quarter.
