No. 3 Terps Suffer First Loss Of The Season In 2-1 Defeat Against Duke

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The No. 3 Terps (3-1) fell for the first time all season as No. 20 Duke (2-0) converted off a penalty corner with 1:08 left to play in regulation to come out on top 2-1.
Ashlyn Carr put the Terps up early and the squad carried a 1-0 lead into halftime. Duke answered in the third quarter before ultimately finding the game-winner with 68 seconds to play as an initial save from Kieft on a penalty corner rebounded to the Blue Devils who were able to put it away and secure the win.
Paige Kieft was big at keeper all evening, finishing with six saves.

- Paige Kieft made a big save for the Terps off a Duke penalty corner with just over five minutes remaining to keep the game knotted at one apiece.

- This year's B1G/ACC Challenge is aligned with Fight4ALS, a campaign that works to raise awareness and find a cure for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
- Fight4ALS was founded by Matt and Peggy Engleka. Peggy, a former Olympic field hockey player, is a close friend of Maryland head coach Missy Meharg. Her husband, Matt, is battling advanced ALS and the couple are actively working to find a cure.
- Matt and Peggy were in attendance at the game, with Matt performing the ceremonial pushback to kick off the weekend. Each team was wearing a custom t-shirt and the first 200 fans were given a Fight4ALS wristband.
- The Terps continue play in the B1G/ACC Challenge against No, 17 Boston College on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 2:30 pm. It will air on B1G+.
