COLLEGE PARK, MD - No. 3 Maryland field hockey returns home from California to host it's season opener and B1G/ACC Challenge. The Terps face two familiar opponents in No. 20 Duke and No. 17 Boston College.
Parking for Friday's games will be open in the lot next to the Complex, 11B, as well as XX1, RR2 and 9B across Paint Branch Drive, will open beginning at 4 p.m. Cars parked before 4 p.m., or in other lots, are subject to ticketing. Parking for Sunday's games will be open all day in 11B, XX1, RR2 and 9B all day. Fans are asked to follow all parking signs. Click

series history
- Maryland owns a winning record of 36-13-3 all time over Duke. The last meeting between these squads was at last season's B1G/ACC Challenge, where the Terps took a 7-2 victory in Newton, Mass.
- Missy Meharg is 15-3 all-time against the Blue Devils with matchups dating back to 1997. In last year's matchup, Maryland claimed a 3-1 victory.
- The last time the Terps hosted the Challenge was in 2018, as Maryland went 2-0 on the weekend.
season opener success
- The Terps opened the 2023 campaign with three games in four days against Stanford, Cal, and UC Davis, winning all three matchups. Maryland remains undefeated against all three west coast squads.
- Maryland is one of four Big Ten schools to remain undefeated after the first week of play.
- Maryland outscored their opponents 14-1, tallying 39 points to their opponents' three.
- The Terps had seven different goal scorers on the weekend, with three having two or more. Junior Hope Rose led the charge with five goals, including one game-winner, and one assist.
- Graduate student Nathalie Fiechter and freshman Maci Bradford lead the team in assists with three apiece.
- Fifth year Margot Lawn added one goal and two assists to her 2023 stat sheet, starting in all three games for the Terps.
new faces bring new looks
- Graduate transfer Sammy Popper started a streak over the weekend. She started in every game so far, scoring one goal in each matchup.
- Hannah Boss, a sophomore from The Hague, the Netherlands, made her presence known early. She clinched her first career goal in the season opener at Stanford and created multiple offensive looks for the Terps. She earned her first start against the Golden Bears, continuing her high caliber play. She finished the weekend with an assist at UC Davis.
- Freshman Maci Bradford held her own during her first weekend in a Maryland uniform. The Delmar, Delaware, native tallied her first career goal and assist against Stanford. She followed that impressive performance with an assist on the equalizing goal at Cal. She scored the game-winning goal and tallied an assist at UC Davis. Bradford already has two three-point games on the year.
- Freshman Maddie Vasilios collected her first career goal at UC Davis to give the Terps the 6-0 win.
- Josie Hollamon, a freshman from Delmar, Delaware, started in all three games at center back. She helped the defense to only allow one score across all three games.

- Maryland field hockey is no stranger to the B1G/ACC Challenge, but this year adds a special element.
- This year's tournament is aligned with Fight4ALS, a campaign that works to raise awareness and find a cure for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
- Fight4ALS was founded by Matt and Peggy Engleka. Peggy, a former Olympic field hockey player, is a close friend of Maryland head coach Missy Meharg. Her husband, Matt, is battling advanced ALS and the couple are actively working to find a cure.
- Matt and Peggy will be in attendance of Friday's events, with Matt performing the ceremonial pushback to kick off the weekend. Each team will be wearing a custom t-shirt and the first 200 fans will be given a Fight4ALS wristband.

Championship coaching
- Missy Meharg returns for her 36th season as head coach. A nine-time National Coach of the Year recipient, Meharg brings an unprecedented level of consistency and excellence to the Maryland field hockey program.
- Meharg became the third coach in Division I history to reach 600 wins in 2021. She is not shy of championships as she has lead the Terps to seven national titles, including five in seven years,12 conference tournament crowns,15 conference regular season titles and 19 appearances in the NCAA Semifinals round, including 12 in the NCAA Finals.
- She is supported by associate head coach Scott Tupper (third season), assistant coach Kasey Tapman Asper (third season) and goalie specialist Natalie Hunter Cyrus (first season).
