Maryland’s Jason Yellin Honored With CSC 25 Years Service Award

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland's Associate Athletics Director and Strategic Communications Officer Jason Yellin has been honored with the 25-Year Service Award by the College Sports Communicators organization.
 
The organization's membership is made up of communications and creative content individuals at all levels of college athletics.
 
Yellin was one of only 18 members to be recognized for the achievement which honors exemplary work and quarter century of service (or more) to college sports communications and the student-athletes they serve.

"This is an incredible honor for Jason and a testament to the years of consistent dedication and professionalism he has provided this industry," said Carrie Blankenship, the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations. "He continues to make a valuable impact through his leadership and hard work at Maryland and we are proud to have him as a member of our team."
 
All CSC Special Awards recipients will be honored during the 2024 CSCUNITE24 convention in Las Vegas in June.
 
Yellin began his second stint with the University of Maryland Athletics Department in November 2019. He had previously worked with the department from 1998-04. He has also worked the Big Ten Conference (2016-19), the University of Tennessee (2011-16), the University of Massachusetts (2004-11), and at Stony Brook University (1988-96).
 
In his role at Maryland, Yellin oversees the Strategic Communications and Content Development department. His position focuses on strategies to enhance and protect the brand reputation and overall mission of Maryland Athletics on a local, regional, and national level.

Yellin is a member of the One Maryland Council leadership group and serves a Vice Chair. He has played a vital role in Maryland's content development and Name, Image and Likeness strategies, aiding to partner deals with Opendorse, SIDEARM Sports, PhotoShelter and others. He also serves as a secondary sport supervisor for the Big Ten Champion Terrapin baseball program.

He returned to Maryland from the Big Ten Conference office in Chicago, where he spent four years as the Assistant Commissioner for Communications. In that capacity, he served as a member of the senior staff directly overseeing the communications unit focused primarily on media relations, operations, social media efforts and the coordination of publicity for 14 member institutions and 28 official conference sports.

Prior to the Big Ten, Yellin was an Assistant Athletic Director and Media Relations Director at Tennessee. A member of the Senior Leadership Team, Yellin spent five years operating the media relations office in one of the premier athletic conferences in the nation, the Southeastern Conference. He also served as the primary public relations contact for its nationally-ranked football team, cultivating relationships with national publications, Internet and TV outlets.

Yellin also spent time at the University of Massachusetts as an Associate Athletics Director (2004-11), following his first tenure at Maryland (1998-04). While at Maryland, the Terps won the 2002 NCAA Men's Basketball Championships and appeared in three major football bowl games.

Prior to his time at Maryland, Yellin was a part of the launch of ESPN.com from 1996-98.     

Yellin graduated from Stony Brook University and worked in the Seawolves' athletics department for eight years throughout high school and college.
