From The Desk Of Damon Evans

Happy New Year, Terp Nation!

What a year 2023 was for the Terrapins! Over the past year, 12 Terrapin teams advanced to the national postseason. Maryland had 20 major league professional draft selections in 2023, the most of any Big Ten school. The year started with a football bowl victory over North Carolina State at the Duke's Mayo Bowl and culminated on Saturday with a 31-13 bowl victory over Auburn in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl in Nashville. Maryland is one of only four Power 5 schools to win three straight bowl games (joining Georgia, Minnesota and Texas Tech). And the best is ahead!

On behalf of Coach Locks and the entire program, we want to thank you for your support this season. Year-over-year attendance increased by more than 26 percent, the largest improvement of any Power 5 program in the nation. Your support makes all the difference.

In the coming weeks, we will go on sale with football season tickets for the 2024 season. If you are already a season ticket holder, thank you for renewing. For everyone else, now is the perfect time to join our exciting and growing football program. Let's pack SECU Stadium next year and take this thing to the next level.

The new year also brings a new competitive season for many of our teams. Coach Willard and Coach Frese lead exciting teams into the heart of our Big Ten schedule this month. Home court advantage at XFINITY Center is our secret weapon, so I invite you all to join us for some of the best college basketball in the country

As we begin a new year, I want to thank all of you for your continued support. Whether you are a season ticket holder or donate towards scholarships, facilities, or academic programs, every dollar means a stronger Maryland Athletics program.

To remain competitive in the Big Ten conference and across the nation in 20 varsity sports, Maryland Athletics has to continually invest in our teams. This year, we will continue to build the Barry P. Gossett Basketball Performance Center, break ground on indoor hitting facilities for baseball and softball and build out a new state-of-the-art club at XFINITY Center

We will also continue to lead boldly in the NIL space. The One Maryland Collective provides opportunities for all of our student-athletes and we have ambitious goals for these efforts. We are proud to announce the hiring of Chris Weiner as the Executive Director of the One Maryland Collective. Chris is a proud University of Maryland alum and has extensive experience working in the corporate sales for professional sports franchises, most recently serving as Senior Manager, Corporate Partnerships with the Washington Nationals. He will build out the One Maryland Collective staff to ultimately drive resources that support our student-athletes.

The future is bright for Maryland Athletics. Together, we can do great things in 2024 and beyond.
