No. 6 Terps Extend Unbeaten Streak To 11 Games With 2-0 Win Over George Mason

COLLEGE PARK, MD –  No. 6 Maryland men's soccer extended its unbeaten streak to 11 games with its 2-0 win over George Mason on Tuesday at Ludwig Field. The Terps are 8-0-3 during their run. Their streak rivals their 2017 streak, which started the season with a 13-game unbeaten run.

Sadam Masereka put the Terps (8-1-4) on board in the 29th minute with his second goal of the season after transferring to Maryland from the NAIA level. The score was also his second in the last three games. Chris Steinleitner assisted the goal with a perfect outlet pass to Masereka, who broke free behind the George Mason back line and put it right past the goalkeeper.
Leon Koehl added a score on a penalty kick in the 65th minute and is now a perfect 6-of-6 on penalty kicks this season. The last Terp to go a perfect 6-of-6 on penalty kicks was Patrick Mullins in 2013, who went 9-for-9 that season
Maryland's defense, led by Jace Clark, Luca Costabile, William Kulvik and Bjarne Thiesen, held George Mason to one shot on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Laurin Mack made one save and was awarded his third shutout of the season.

George Mason (10-3) was previously ranked No. 13 in the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Rankings. However, their loss to Duquesne pushed them outside the top 25 in today's rankings.

Cirovski's Take
"I am delighted with the result tonight," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "I thought we started a bit sluggish. We looked heavy-legged, but we grew into the game. George Mason is an outstanding team in possession, and they created some problems for us in the first 15-20 minutes, but we adjusted a few things tactically, and our players on the field did a great job of making some adjustments as well. I thought we started to take over the game, and I feel very good about the way our guys showed character, grip, toughness, and, again, quality to get the goal, create the penalty kick, and obviously, a few other good chances as well. So very proud of the team once again."

Koehl On Becoming The First Since 2013 To Net Six PK's

"For me, it's an honor, and I just keep going. I believe in God, and God gives me strength. I'm just confident in taking them."

Masereka On Scoring Twice In Three Games
"I feel like it's coming. I'm getting my confidence back, and I just need one more for Monday so that my confidence can keep on building."
