BETHLEHEM, PA – Coming off a two-week break, the Maryland women's cross country team turned in a strong performance at the 50
th Annual Paul Short Invitational – one of the top annual cross country meets of the season nationally.
The Terps were led by
Rose Coats who placed 14
th overall among 371 total runners who crossed the finish line. As a team, Maryland finished 28
th among 42 overall teams in the Women's Gold 6K race which featured some of the top programs in the country.
Coats, who also placed 14
th at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational, was two seconds off her personal-best 6K time with a mark of 20 minutes, 24.2 seconds as the top Terp to cross the finish line.
Katie Turk placed 87
th (21.17.8) followed by
Katie Altieri (22:00.5) who finished 183
rd. The top five was rounded out by
Emma Lorey (272, 22:46.9) and
Rubie Goffena (276, 22:50.3).
Earlier in the morning
Gauri Nair led Maryland in the Women's Open 6K as she placed 45
th among 488 runners with a time of 22:40.6 – her second fastest time of the season. She was followed by
AnnaMarie Tretola (80, 23:05.5) and
Cayden Justice (117, 23:28.3).
Harvard, ranked fourth in the Northeast Regional Rankings, won the overall team title followed by Connecticut and Princeton (4
th in the Mid-Atlantic Region).
