Ozzy-Momodu, Williams to Redshirt 2024-25 Season

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Junior Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu and freshman Breanna Williams of the Maryland women's basketball team have decided to redshirt the 2024-25 season, head coach Brenda Frese announced Friday.

"We've discussed these decisions extensively with both Breanna and Isi and we want to put them in the best position possible for success here long-term," Frese said. "Both Breanna and Isi have incredible family support and our staff's support in their decisions."

Junior forward Ozzy-Momodu, a native of London, England, comes to Maryland from junior college Gulf Coast State. She was a 2024 NJCAA Third Team All-America honoree and averaged 16.7 points, 11.6 rebounds and 73 percent from the floor in 23 games in the 2023-24 season. She suffered an ACL injury in February.

"With her knee injury in February, Isi needs more time to focus on her rehab process," Frese said. "That isn't something we are going to rush and we want her to focus on that process to be ready for next season."

"Recovering from an ACL injury is a long process." Ozzy-Momodu said. "I have unbelievable support from my family, my teammates and my coaches here and this is the best decision to get ready for my future here as a Terp."

Freshman forward Williams, a Billings, Mont. native, was a two-time Montana Gatorade Player of the Year. She averaged 25.2 points, 11.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.2 steals as a senior in 2023-24.

"We have talked openly and honestly with Breanna and her family about this decision," Frese said. "Four years of a college career go by in the blink of an eye. We want Breanna to have a long and phenomenal career here and giving her the extra year will really help set her up for that. Breanna is an amazing player, a special person and she has an incredible family supporting her as well."

"I have decided with my coaches and family that I am going to take this year and redshirt," Williams said. "During this time, I will be working with the coaches to get even stronger and develop my skill set even more as a player. I'll be back on the court with my teammates soon."
