Maryland vs. Penn State 2020

Rakim Jarrett caught five passes for 144 yards with a pair of touchdowns to lead the way in 2020 when the Terps routed Penn State, 35-19.

Tremendous tai
  • Through 11 games, senior WR Tai Felton has 92 receptions,1,097 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns. With his first of six catches against Rutgers on Saturday on Nov. 16, he officially passed D.J. Moore (80 in 2017) and set the program record for the most catches in a single season. In the same game, Felton became the fourth wide receiver in program history to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.
  • Felton, who was named one of 11 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award, leads the Big Ten in receptions and receiving yards and is tied for first in receiving touchdowns. His 92 receptions are the most among power conference players and tied for second in all of FBS. His 1,097 receiving yards rank second in the Power Four and fourth in FBS. Felton has 183 more receiving yards than the next closest Big Ten receiver, Illinois' Pat Bryant. Similarly, Felton has 17 more receptions than the next closest Big Ten receiver, Penn State's Tyler Warren.
  • Felton is one of five Big Ten players since 2020 with 1,000 or more receiving yards through 10 games, joining Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2021) and Marvin Harrison Jr. (2023) and Purdue's David Bell (2021) and Charlie Jones (2022).
  • Felton now stands exactly 143 yards away from the school record for receiving yards in a single season (1,240 receiving yards by Marcus Badgett in 1992). Against Oregon on Nov. 9, Felton surpassed the 2,000 yard mark for his career, becoming just the ninth Terp to accomplish this in program history.
  • Felton's 11 consecutive games with at least five receptions is the longest streak by a Big Ten player since Purdue's David Bell had a 12-game streak that ran from December 2020 to November 2021. Only six other players in Big Ten history have had a streak equal or longer to Felton's. Felton is looking to be the third Big Ten player since 1996 with 12 five-catch games in a single season (Northwestern's Austin Carr in 2016, Purdue's Dorien Bryant in 2006).
Maryland Football vs. Michigan State at SECU Stadium in College Park, MD on Saturday September 7, 2024.Maryland Terrapins
Felton has caught five or more passes in 11 straight games. He is one of just seven Big Ten players this century with such a streak.
billy Ball
  • Redshirt junior QB Billy Edwards Jr. currently leads the Big Ten in completions (273) and ranks third in passing yards per game (261.9). His 273 completions rank sixth in FBS and fifth among Power Four QBs. Similarly, his 285.5 average passing yards ranks 19th in FBS and 14th among Power Four QBs.
  • The Springfield, VA native has six games this season with multiple touchdown passes and zero or one interception. Over the last 30 Maryland seasons, only two QBs have more such games in a season—Taulia Tagovailoa (seven in both 2021 & 2023) and Danny O'Brien (six in 2010).
  • He threw for at least 200 passing yards in each of his first 10 games of the season, the longest streak by a Big Ten QB. The last Big Ten quarterback with a longer such streak was C.J. Stroud (13 straight ended in September 2022).Edwards Jr. started the season with a streak where he threw for at least 250 yards in seven consecutive games. There had been only one longer such streak by a Big Ten quarterback since 1996 – Ohio State's C.J. Stroud had nine straight 250-yard passing games in the 2021 season.
  • Against USC on Oct. 19, he completed 39-of-50 passes for a career-high 373 yards and three total touchdowns (two passing and the game-winning rushing score). Edwards' 300-yard performance was the second of his career. His other was against Villanova on Sept. 21, where he passed for 328 yards. He also set career-highs in yards and completions. His 39 completions rank third in program history for a single game.
  • The quarterback became the second Terp this century with 350+ passing yards and 35+ completions in a single game with his performance against USC. The only other time that happened since 1996 was when Taulia Tagovailoa had 41 completions with 371 passing yards against No. 22 Penn State on Nov. 6, 2022. He is just the second player in the Big Ten this season and second in the conference in the last two seasons with 350+ passing yards and 35+ completions (Oregon's Dillon Gabriel).

In going 39-of-50 against the Trojans, Edwards Jr. posted a 78 percent completion percentage. He's the first Big Ten player since at least 1996, with at least 50 pass attempts and a 78 percent completion mark.
The roman empire
  • With a huge fourth-quarter score against USC on Oct. 19, RB Roman Hemby became the fourth Maryland player this century to rush for 20+ career touchdowns, joining Lance Ball (26), C.J. Brown (25) and Josh Allen (21). Since then, Hemby has added two more rushing scores, one in each of this last two games, to bring his career total to 22.
  • Against Indiana on Sept. 28, Hemby had his second career game with at least 100 rushing yards and five receptions (also Nov. 25, 2023 at Rutgers). All other Maryland players this century combined have two such games (Keon Lattimore in 2007 & Bruce Perry in 2001).
  • A two-time All-Big Ten honoree, Hemby is eighth on Maryland's all-time rushing touchdown list (22) and sits 11th on Maryland's all-time rushing yards list (2,283). His 27 total touchdowns (22 rush, 5 receiving) are tied for fourth all-time.
  • He is one of just three active players to have at least 2,000 rushing yards and 800 receiving yards in his FBS career, along with Boise State's Ashton Jeanty and USC's Woody Marks. He is the only Maryland player to reach those numbers with the program all-time.
  • Hemby has also recorded a reception in 25 straight games dating back to December of 2022, the second longest active streak by an FBS RB (Woody Marks, USC, 56). This is the longest such streak by any Maryland running back this century. He needs one catch to become the second active FBS player with at least 2,000 career rushing yards and 100 catches, joining USC's Woody Marks.

Boomin' Bryce
  • Notre Dame transfer P Bryce McFerson ranks third in the Big Ten and sits 10th in FBS with a 45.5 punting average through 11 games among punters with a minimum of 3.6 punts per game.
  • McFerson has had a 50+ yard punt in nine different games this season, one of 15 FBS players to have nine or more such games. He has 17 punts of 50+ yards this season, the third-most in the Big Ten and tied for eighth-most among all FBS punters.

  • Maryland has had at least 200 passing yards and 75 rushing yards in seven straight road games. The only longer such streak by a Big Ten team this century was by Ohio State between 2018 and 2020 (10).

Quick hitters
  • This season, Maryland is averaging 289.6 passing yards per game (first in the Big Ten, 12th in FBS). The Terps also led the conference in that statistic in 2023. The last time they led a conference in the category in consecutive seasons was 1992 & 1993 in the ACC.
  • Overall, Maryland's 16 turnovers gained is tied with Nebraska for the fourth-best mark in the Big Ten..
  • Against Rutgers on Nov. 16, Maryland had its second game of the season with four players having at least five receptions (also vs USC). The Terps are one of just five FBS teams (Syracuse, Colorado, Memphis, and Pittsburgh) with multiple such games. From 2009 to 2023, the Terps accomplished the feat once (2021 at Illinois).
  • Against Iowa, Felton and Hemby had their fourth game this season with at least five catches each. That is tied for the most such games in a season by any Big Ten WR/RB duo this century (Desmond Cain/Josh Ferguson in 2015, Ross Lane/Tyrell Sutton in 2008.
  • Felton finished his home campaign with eight receiving touchdowns, tied for the most by any FBS player this season with Nick Nash. Felton tied with Torrey Smith for most home TD catches in a single season by a Maryland player this century.
