ANNAPOLIS, MD – No. 10 Maryland women's basketball posted a wire-to-wire victory over Toledo, 92-70, in its final game of the Navy Classic at Alumni Hall on Sunday. The Terps advanced to 8-0, their best unbeaten streak to begin a season since starting 12-0 during the 2018-19 season.
The Terps never gave up their lead despite being tied with the Rockets at 3:03 (17-17) and 2:14 (19-19) in the first. Both squads were shooting 75% from the floor, but Maryland held a 25-21 advantage at the end of the quarter. It later broke away in the second frame, outscoring Toledo 26-12, to lead by double-digits, and never allowed it to bridge the gap.
Saylor Poffenbarger came off the bench and scored a game-high 19 points to contribute to Maryland's 41 bench points. She added 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks, earning her 15th career double-double and second as a Terp in consecutive games. She averaged 14.5 points, 11 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the tournament.
Kaylene Smikle scored 17 points.
Shyanne Sellers added an all-around effort with 14 points, eight assists and two rebounds. She entered the top 10 in program history for assists. With 445 in her four-year career, she now ranks eighth.
Bri McDaniel (11 points) and
Allie Kubek (10 points) rounded out double-digit scorers.
Maryland's defense forced 20 turnovers, and its offense dominated the paint. The Teprs outscored the Rockets 70-34 in the paint, generating high-percentage looks that allowed them to shoot 60% from the floor for the game—tying their season-high against Towson on Nov. 17. The Terps also outrebounded the Rockets 37-27, having outrebounded their opponent in every game this season.
Toledo fell to 4-2 on the season. Nan Garcia led the Rockets with 13 points. Maryland won its only other meeting with Toledo, 73-60, on March 21, 1992, in the NCAA Tournament First Round.

- The Terps opened the game by scoring the first eight points. However, The Rockets responded with a 7-0 run of their own before Saylor Poffenbarger came off the bench and scored a layup.
