COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland wrestling picked up its second Big Ten win in a season for the first time ever in a 28-15 win over Michigan State on Sunday afternoon in the XFINITY Center Pavilion.
The Terps got off to a fast start as Tommy Capul won by forfeit at 125 to put Maryland ahead 6-0. Braxton Brown followed that up with a dominant first period technical fall win to make it 11-0. After younger brother Kal dropped a close match, Ethen Miller continued his recent tear, cruising to second-period technical fall victory. The win was Miller's fourth in a row and fifth in his last six matches.
After Michigan State won a pair of matches in a row, Dominic Solis came up huge in sudden victory, finding a takedown to knock off DJ Shannon and putting the Terps ahead 19-10.
Jaxon Smith won by technical fall in the 197-pound match to clinch the dual for the Terps.
Maryland (4-6, 2-5 B1G) beat Northwestern 29-15 earlier this season and now also has a win over Michigan State (9-5, 2-5) on its resume. The Terps have beaten the Spartans twice since joining the Big Ten.
