Alyssa Thomas Set for Olympic Qualifier with USA Basketball

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland women's basketball all-time leading scorer and rebounder Alyssa Thomas was named to USA Basketball's National Team roster for the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Antwerp, Belgium this week.

Thomas is one of 12 players selected to the roster after a training camp in Brooklyn, N.Y. over the weekend. Although the United States has already secured a spot in the 2024 Olympic Games after clinching the gold medal at the 2022 World Cup, the team will still participate in this Qualifying tournament to gain experience.

The team will play Belgium at 2:45 PM ET Thursday, then Nigeria at 12:15 PM ET Friday. They will close the event with a matchup vs. Senegal at 1:15 PM ET Sunday. For tournament info, click HERE. Fans can watch the games HERE

Head coach Cheryl Reeve of the Minnesota Lynx will lead the training camp and guide the team through the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. She will be assisted by Mike Thibault of the Washington Mystics and Curt Miller of the Los Angeles Sparks.

The February camp and tournament, followed by a training camp in Cleveland in April, are important on the journey to Paris and the short time together the team will have between the start of the WNBA in-season Olympic break and the start of the Olympic tournament in late July.
