COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland finished the 2024 Big Ten Wrestling Championships in 10th place with 39 points, marking the highest finish both in terms of place and in total points since joining the conference. The previous best was 32 points at the 2017 Championships for an 11th place finish. The Terps had four placers (Jaxon Smith, Ethen Miller, Braxton Brown and Seth Nevills), which was the most Maryland has had at the Big Ten Championships in program history. 

Ethen Miller and Braxton Brown both put together the highest finishes at Big Tens of their career, finishing in fourth and sixth, respectively, after competing in Session IV. Jaxon Smith also finished in fourth place as the three all earned automatic bids to the NCAA Championships in Kansas City from March 21-23. 

Seth Nevills finished in eighth place. He and Kal Miller will both have strong chances to receive at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament this week. 

Chase Mielnik won three straight matches in the 9th-place bracket in Session III, punctuated emphatically with a pin over Iowa's Aiden Riggins. He finished one spot away from an automatic qualification and will also be in the at-large pool with a chance to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships. 

This weekend marked the first time Maryland had ever hosted the illustrious Big Ten Wrestling Championships and it saw over 11,000 people pack the XFINITY Center for each session, highlighted by a 12,227 attendance in Session IV.
