Jacob Orr Named Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2023-2024 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.

This week's Terp of the Week is Maryland baseball infielder Jacob Orr. Orr helped the Terps to their 15th consecutive series win, finishing the week with a .636 batting average, three doubles, and five RBI.

In Maryland's 9-8 win over Portland on Saturday, Orr finished the game going 3-5 with a pair of doubles and four RBI. All three of Orr's hits in the game drove in a run for the Terrapins. Orr got his day started with a two-run double in the first inning to extend the Terps early lead to 3-0. Orr continued his strong day with an RBI single in the sixth. Orr finished the game with the most important of the day, as he ripped an RBI double to left field that scored the winning run to even the weekend series at one. Orr followed up that performance with a career-high four hits to pace the Maryland offense in a 7-6 win. Orr added his second RBI double in his first at-bat in Sunday's win, scoring Kevin Keister to double Maryland's lead at 2-0 in the second inning. Orr added three more singles on the day, as he finished 4-5 on the afternoon.

Orr currently leads the team with .393 batting average, and has a home run and 12 RBI through the team's first 20 games. His .393 batting average is the seventh-best in the Big Ten, while his on-base percentage of .514 is the fifth-best in the conference. Orr's lone home run of the season came on opening day to help Maryland to a 5-4 win on the road against Georgia Southern on Feb. 16. This marked the second consecutive opening day game where Orr hit a home run, with the junior hitting a home run in the season opener last year against USF. Orr is the first Terrapin to accomplish this feat in the last 25 years. Orr is also one of only three players in Division I that have homered on opening day in both 2023 and 2024.

Maryland is back in action at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on March 19 for a game against James Madison. First pitch is at 4 pm ET and the game will be streamed on Big Ten Plus and Maryland Baseball Network.
