13-Run Fourth Inning Propels Terps Past Saint Peter’s In Home Opener, 13-0

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland softball scored all 13 of its season-high runs in the fourth inning as the Terps won their home opener, 13-0, against Saint Peter's, on Thursday at Maryland Softball Stadium. It was the home debut for new head coach Lauren Karn

After the game was scoreless for three innings, Maryland (7-12) reeled off 13 runs on 11 hits to win the game in five innings. Every Maryland player reached a base in its dominant fourth inning.

Diamond Williams smashed her sixth home run of the season to begin the big fourth inning. It was a solo shot and she finished the game 2-for-2 and added another run later in the fourth inning. 
  Mazie MacFarlane went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Sammi Woods and Michaela Jones also finished two hits, each going 2-for-2 and adding an RBI and a run,      
  Gracelyn Solarz had a career-high two RBI as she drove in a pair of runs in the fourth. Freshman Hannah Runk drove in the first two runs of her career on a two-run double. 
  Genevieve Ebaugh pitched a complete game one-hitter, striking out two. It was her first career shutout and second complete game.

Saint Peter's is now 6-6. 

Breaking Down The Action
  • Genevieve Ebaugh didn't allow a hit for the first three innings. 
  • Saint Peter's recorded its first hit in the fourth inning with an infield single by Dakota Pitts to advance a runner to second. Ebaugh escaped the inning with a strikeout and groundout to strand two runners for Saint Peters. 
  • Diamond Williams homered to begin the fourth inning and Sydney Lewis followed with a single down right field. Mazie MacFarlane drove home the runner with a double to center field, increasing the Terps lead 2-0. The Terps then loaded the bases and Madison Runyan's sacrifice fly to left field added another run. Gracelyn Solarz singled up the middle and drove in two more runners. Megan Mikami continued Maryland's hot inning with a two-run RBI single down the right-field line to make it 7-0. MacFarlane added to her big game with a single down the left-field line to bring another runner home. Williams reached home on a wild pitch. Woods continued the dominant stretch with a left-field line RBI single. Jones singled down the right field to make it eleven unanswered runs for Maryland in the inning. Hannah Runk then notched her first career hit with an RBI double to increase the lead to 13-0. 
  • Ebaugh secured the win by forcing a groundout double play and another groundout shortly after.
