Terps Thrash Towson In Five Innings, 11-2

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Despite falling behind by two runs in the top of the first inning, Maryland softball thrashed Towson, 11-2, at Maryland Softball Stadium on Wednesday. 

Maryland (19-27) scored 10 unanswered runs through the first, second and fourth innings. Towson (19-28) had no answers for Marylad's lineup, which registered 12 hits. Jaeda McFarland, Sydney Lewis, Diamond Williams, Michaela Jones and Hannah Runk recorded multiple hits. It was Runk's first career game with two or more knocks. 

McFarland finished the game 2-for-3 with a home run and a triple. The homer was her sixth of the season, and the triple was the 20th of her career, a Maryland softball program record. The outfielder also scored two runs. 
  Lewis (2-for-2) and Jones (2-for-2) each had multiple RBIs. Lewis's single to begin the scoring run drove in two runs. Jones singled and doubled, bringing in a combined three runs. She also scored a season-high three runs.  
  Keira Bucher started in the circle for the Terps and pitched the first complete game of her career. She allowed just four hits and zero earned runs. The sophomore also struck out three batters and earned her first win of the season. 


Breaking Down The Action
  • Towson took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with two unearned runs. 
  • Maryland responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Seven consecutive batters reached base safely with six hits. Sydney Lewis drove in two runs with her single. Diamond Williams and Michaela Jones each recorded an RBI double. Hannah Runk provided an RBI single as well. 
  • The Terps added another five runs to lead 10-2 entering the third. McFarland homered to right field. Jones hit a two-RBI single, Woods hit an RBI double and Gracelyn Solarz notched an RBI groundout. 
  • The Terrapins added a final insurance run in the fifth to take an 11-2 lead.

  • Jaeda McFarland hit a triple in the first inning to add to her school record for most in a career. She now has 20 career triples.
