Sam Hojnar Named Solomon Eye Physicians and Surgeons Terp of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2023-2024 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.

This week's Terp of the Week is Sam Hojnar. Sam Hojnar helped lead the Terps to a 3-1 week, finishing with a 313 batting average, three home runs, a double, six RBI and a .938 slugging percentage.

Hojnar went 1-3 with an RBI single to help lead the Terps to a 6-4 win over James Madison on the road on Tuesday. Hojnar slugged his first home run of the week on Friday in game one of Maryland's home series against Illinois. The big game for the redshirt senior came on Sunday, as he hit two home runs in a 3-5, four RBI game to help lead the Terps to a series win over conference-leading Illinois. Hojnar hit his first home run of the game in the third inning to extend the Terps lead to 4-1. Hojnar's second homer came in the eighth with the Terps just up a run, as his three-run shot provided the insurance they needed to clinch the series victory.

Hojnar currently leads the team with 12 home runs on the season, with those 12 homers also being a career-high for him as well. In addition to leading the team in home runs, Hojnar also leads the team in RBI with 50 and doubles with 14.

Hojnar is the third Maryland baseball player to receive Terp of the Week honors. Jacob Orr was the first player to receive the honor after helping lead the Terps to their 15th consecutive series win against Portland, finishing the week with a .636 batting average, three doubles, and five RBI. Brayden Martin was the second player to receive Terp of the Week. Martin finished that week with a team leading .600 batting average and four RBI, with two of his four RBI coming on his walk-off singles against Michigan State. Martin also received Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after his performance earlier in the season against Michigan State.

The Terps are back in action on Tuesday as they travel to face Towson, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on FloBaseball and will air on the Maryland Baseball Network.
