ANN ARBOR, MI - The Maryland track and field team wrapped up day one of competition at the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships, with Kayla Thorpe achieving a podium finish in the javelin.

Thorpe came from behind on her last throw to move into 3rd place. She launched the javelin 50.82m for her highest place finish at a Big Ten Championship.

Mekhi Abbott also put points on the board in the men's javelin throwing 60.10m to secure an eighth place finish.

Kevin Collins qualified for the 200m final, running the #2 all-time performance of 20.90 in the men's 200m

Other Highlights
- Rose Coats competed in the women's 10,000m final, running a personal best 36:13.43. This mark ranks number 6 all time.
- Anna Coffin narrowly missed qualifying for the 1500m final. The senior had a strong close to finish one spot out of the qualifying positions. Katie Turk, Emmi Simon, and Amanda Eliker also competed in the 1500m.
- Matt De Haas also had a strong close in the 1500m after the race got off to a slow start and finished top five in his heat. Justin DePinto also competed in the event.
- Armanie Coleman competed in the women's 200m for her first race of the championships posting a time of 24.28
- Jessica Sutter threw a season-best 38.01m in women's Javelin
- Andrew Harmon competed in the men's hammer throw tossing 58.17m
- Graham also competed in the women's hammer throw, finishing with a mark of 47.23m
- Tolulope Akinduro competed in the women's 400m hurdles, running a 1:03.21. Skylar Payne also raced in the hurdles.

The Terps will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the competition before the events wrap up on Sunday.
