MADISON, WI – Maryland softball defeated Wisconsin in game two, 6-5, at Goodman Softball Complex on Saturday. The Terps (22-29, 7-15 Big Ten) captured the series win after taking game one, 12-2, on Friday.

With the win, Maryland clinched a spot in the Big Ten Tournament in Iowa City, Iowa. The tournament begins on May 8.

Julia Shearer starred for the Terps in the circle and the batter's box. The freshman hit her first career home run in the fourth inning and finished her outing with her first multi-hit game, going 2-for-3.

Shearer pitched 6.2 innings in the circle and earned her second career win. She struck out four batters and handed pitching duties to Keira Bucher, who recorded the final out and earned her 13th career save, a program record.

Sydney Lewis (3-for-3), Jaeda McFarland (3-for-4), Mazie MacFarlane (2-for-3), Megan Mikami (3-for-4) and Madison Runyan (2-for-3) also recorded multiple hits. Lewis led the Terps with a team-high three RBIs. MacFarlane added an RBI, and she and Mikami scored two runs. Mikami and McFarland also added stolen bases and rank first and second respectively, for career stolen bases in program history.

The Terps scored at least one run in four innings and totaled 15 hits as a team, a season-high for a game in conference play. They have 28 hits in their last two games, the most in a two-game span this season.

The Badgers are now 19-29 overall and 8-14 in conference play.

Maryland got on the board early in the first inning and took a 2-0 lead. Jaeda McFarland and Mazie MacFarlane hit singles and stole bases. Sydney Lewis then hit a two-RBI single to drive both of them home.
Wisconsin responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. The runs were manufactured by an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
The Terps broke the tie and led 4-2 entering the bottom of the third. MacFarlane hit an RBI double, and she later scored on a throwout to second base.
Maryland extended its lead to 5-2 after Julia Shearer hit her first career home run to center field in the fourth inning.
Wisconsin got the run back in the bottom of the inning, trailing 5-3.
Lewis drove in her third run of the game with a single in the fifth, and the Terps led 6-3.
Ava Kuszak hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to make it a one run game.
Keira Bucher recorded the final out, earning the save as Maryland won 6-5.

McFarland stole one base today and is second in school history with 70 for her career. She is chasing her teammate Mikami, who stands alone with 78 stolen bases.
