
Terps Fall To Wolverines In Big Ten Quarterfinals

IOWA CITY, IA – No. 10 seed Maryland softball was defeated by No. 2 seed Michigan, 10-0, in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals at Pearl Field on Thursday.
The game remained scoreless until Michigan (38-17), ranked No. 39 in RPI, scored all its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The game ended after Avery Fantucci hit a grand slam.
Courtney Wyche made her second tournament appearance in two days in the circle. She pitched 4.1 innings and had seven strikeouts, which is a program record for most in a Big Ten Tournament game. With 668 career strikeouts, Wyche now has the third-most in program history. She also has 243 strikeouts on the season, the most in the Big Ten and the sixth-most for a single season in program history.
Head Coach Lauren Karn finished her inaugural season at the helm with a 24-30 record and a Big Ten Tournament win against Penn State. The win on Wednesday was Maryland's second Big Ten Tournament win in program history.

- Wyche's 243 strikeouts on the season also rank as the sixth most for a single season in program history. She surpassed Kerry Hickey's 2011 season, in which she struck out 238 batters.
- Wyche is also third on the all-time innings pitched list, with 636.2 innings in her career. Next on the list is Amanda Bettker (1999-2002), who threw 657 innings in her career.
- Jaeda McFarland is third in program history for career hits. She recorded one in the game and now has 217. Next on the list is Jenny Belak (2005-08), with 219 career hits.
