EUGENE, Oregon – Maryland track and field assistant coach Rudy Winkler took second in the men's hammer throw on Sunday evening to earn a spot on Team U.S.A. for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
 
This will be Winkler's third Olympics in the hammer throw. He took second in the event at the U.S. Trials with a distance of 258-feet, 10 inches. He came into the U.S. Trials ranked seventh in the world.
 
Winkler is the American record-holder (271-feet, 4-inches) and has previously represented the United States in the Rio (2016) and Tokyo (2021) games. In 2021, he placed seventh in the hammer, while in 2016 he was 18^th.
 
Additionally, the Sand Lake, New York, native has competed in four World Championships (2017, 2019, 2022, 2023) with a top finish of sixth in 2022.
