EUGENE, Oregon – Maryland track and field assistant coach
Rudy Winkler took second in the men's hammer throw on Sunday evening to earn a spot on Team U.S.A. for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This will be Winkler's third Olympics in the hammer throw. He took second in the event at the U.S. Trials with a distance of 258-feet, 10 inches. He came into the U.S. Trials ranked seventh in the world.
Winkler is the American record-holder (271-feet, 4-inches) and has previously represented the United States in the Rio (2016) and Tokyo (2021) games. In 2021, he placed seventh in the hammer, while in 2016 he was 18
th.
Additionally, the Sand Lake, New York, native has competed in four World Championships (2017, 2019, 2022, 2023) with a top finish of sixth in 2022.
