
Terps Drop Contest With Ducks, 2-0

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland women's soccer was defeated by Big Ten newcomer, Oregon, 2-0, on Sept. 22 at Ludwig Field.
Despite the loss, Maryland (3-5-3, 0-3 Big Ten) fought through out the full 90 minutes of action. The Terps produced several close-scoring opportunities off their seven corner kicks.
In the 23rd minute, Tahirah Turnage-Morales received an entry pass into the box. She headed towards the center of the net, but Oregon's goalkeeper saved it. Later in the 31st minute, Kennedy Bell found a cutting Peyton Bernard, who shot the ball toward the low center of the net, nearly tying the game. Both were two of Maryland's best scoring opportunities.
Oregon's Haley McWhirter and Ariane Haysman Boaler scored in the 26th and 62nd minutes. Oregon improved to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

- Maryland's first shot of the game was in the 23rd minute, a header by Tahirah Turnage-Morales that was saved at the center of the net.
- The Ducks scored in the 25th minute, taking a 1-0 lead.
- Kennedy Bell set up a nice crosser to Peyton Bernard in the 31st minute that nearly tied the game.
- Oregon scored their second goal of the game in the 62nd minute.
- The Terps will travel for the next three games of Big Ten play, starting with Northwestern at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium on Sept. 26. The game will start at 7 p.m. and air on Big Ten Plus.
