GymTerps Travel to Nebraska for First Away Dual Meet

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Maryland gymnastics team travels to Lincoln, Nebraska to face the Cornhuskers in their first away dual meet. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m., and fans can follow the action via updates on X @TerpsGymnastics and watch via Big Ten Network this Sunday.
 
SETTING THE STAGE
  • The Terps begin week three ranked No. 29 in the Road to Nationals ranking. Maryland also places themselves at No. 14 on bars, and No. 19 on floor, looking to build upon their previous weeks' score of 194.850.
  •  Senior Sierra Kondo reached a career high of 9.950 on uneven bars this past weekend against UCLA at home, Kondo not only set a personal best but also tied the program's individual event record, cementing her place among Maryland's all-time greats.
  • Maryland broke its attendance record this past weekend, drawing an incredible 7,287 fans for the highly anticipated matchup against the previously ranked No. 11 UCLA.
  • The Terrapins took on the Cornhuskers last February, securing a hard-fought 196.675-196.125 victory.
  • Freshman Sarah Saville also boasted an impressive showing in on bars against UCLA, scoring 9.875 after debuting with a 9.825 at the Lone Star Challenge on Jan. 11. 
  • The GymTerps began their season by placing third at the Lone Star Challenge, earning a score of 195.400. 
  • The Terps were ranked No. 24 in the WCGA Preseason Coaches Poll and No. 22 in the College Gym News Preseason Poll. The Terps enter the 2025 season looking to reach the NCAA Regionals for the seventh consecutive year (seven including the 2020 season, when Regionals were not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
  • The Terps welcome back a multitude of key contributors, including graduate student Alexa Rothenbuescher, who was recently named as a Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch. Rothenbuescher is coming off a dominating senior season, reaching a career high of 9.950 on floor and 9.925 on bars. Along with Rothenbuescher, sophomore Natalie Martin, also named Big Ten Gymnast to watch for the second consecutive year also returns as the leader in beam scoring. Martin built herself an impressive resume, being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week last January. Five of the team's top scorers return to the lineup for the bars, beam and floor exercise, Taylor Rech, Rhea Leblanc, Sierra Kondo, Maddie Komoroski and Victoria Gatzendorfer all returning as event starters from last season.
  • Last season, the GymTerps finished with a 13-7 overall record while finishing with the season ranked No. 26 in Road To Nationals NQS scoring. Maryland won Session I of the Big Ten Championships for the first time in program history, while also clinching their highest team score at the Big Ten Championships of 196.775. Maryland finished with the highest team NQS in program history after the championships with a 196.790.

Checking out the schedule
  • The GymTerps will host three dual meets this season along with two quad meets at the XFINITY Center in 2025 while hitting the road for seven competitions leading up to the 2025 B1G Championships in Ann Arbor, MI.
  • Nelligan's squad hits the road for a quad meet at Rutgers with Fisk and Utica on Saturday, Feb. 2. The Gym Terps then return back home for a dual meet against Penn State on Friday, Feb. 7. Maryland will then travel out west for the first time to face Washington in a dual meet on Friday, Feb.14. The Gym Terps will then host the Big Four meet, where they battle against Illinois, Michigan, and Minnesota on Saturday, Mar.1.
  • Maryland then will have to travel for three out of conference meets, starting with a dual at Temple on Wednesday, Mar. 5. The squad then travels to Connecticut for a tri meet against Yale with LIU on Sunday, Mar. 9. The Gym Terps remain close to home when they head to GW to compete in a tri meet along with Towson on Friday, Mar.14.
  • The Gym Terps finish out their regular season by hosting their final tri meet against Towson, GW, and Yale on Sunday, Mar.16. Post season competition begins with the Big Ten Championships on Friday, March 21 in Ann Arbor, MI. The NCAA Regional meets will take place between April 2 and 6, where Maryland hopes to improve upon their 196.350 score from 2024. The NCAA semis and finals will be held between April 17 and 19.
