COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2024-25 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.

This week's Terp of the Week is junior Kaylene Smikle of the women's basketball team.

Kaylene Smikle (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led the eighth-ranked Terrapins to two Big Ten wins this week, including one on the road against a ranked team. She averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.5 steals and shot 56% from outside the arc. Smikle also went 10-12 from the free throw line during the stretch.

Against Rutgers Thursday in College Park, she added 13 points and tied her career-high 5 steals in the 18-point victory. In a tough road win at No. 23 Iowa Sunday, Smikle scored a season-high 26 points, including 12 in the second half and 9 in the fourth quarter. She went 4-5 from outside the arc and notched a career-best 6 steals. The Hawkeyes cut the Terps' lead to 5 with under 4:00 to play. Smikle responded with a three at 3:29 to make it an 8-point game, then another three with 2:09 to go to make it an 11-point lead for Maryland.
